It may look like chaos, but the teams of dogs used in sledding are highly trained and have specialized talents. Not every pup can be a leader, and those that aren’t become point dogs, swing dogs and wheel dogs.

One of the most memorable images of dog sledding is the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in Alaska, which covers over 1,000 miles. But you don’t have to exert that much energy to hop on a dog sled and take a leisurely tour through the backcountry. Breeze through the snowy landscapes of Alaska, Lake Tahoe, Colorado or Canada with melodic barking in your ears.
