While Atlanta, Ga., is widely known as a convention destination, the city is not solely focused on the business traveler. There are a wide variety of family-friendly hotels where you can stay on your Atlanta vacation, with many offering packages in conjunction with local attractions.

Downtown Favorites

The downtown area offers an array of hotels ranging from upscale luxury accommodations to more middle market rooms. For families, the best hotels are the ones closest to the main attractions.

The Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown on Baker Street and the Embassy Suites Atlanta on Marietta Street both have views of Centennial Olympic Park—a permanent reminder of the 1996 Olympic Games, and the centerpiece of Atlanta’s newest developments. Both are located adjacent to the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola, and within easy walking distance of Underground Atlanta mall, the Georgia Dome, Phillips Arena and CNN Center. Hilton Garden Inn, 275 Baker St., tel.404-577-2001; rates start at $111 per night. Embassy Suites, 267 Marietta St., tel. 404-223-2300; rates start at $145 per night.

Located a few blocks farther away from the main downtown attractions, the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel gets good reviews from family travelers and often has special packages available. 165 Courtland St., tel., 404-659-6500; rates start at about $190 per night.
