Trip Photos: Viva Las Vegas

In honor of my upcoming (and first ever!) trip to Las Vegas, I decided to feature this flashy photo. What are some of your favorite things to do in Sin City? How about places to stay and eat? I’m currently planning my trip (which I’m looking forward to sharing with the readers of TravelMusings!) and am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks to James Marvin Phelps (mandj98) for posting this photo.

Trip Photos: Corniglia, Cinque Terre

Even if you haven’t been, it’s hard not to fall instantly in love with the enchanting Cinque Terre, an area along the Italian coast also known as the Five Lands. Comprised of five villages—Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso—Cinque Terre is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. Unlike the other villages, Corniglia rests on a promontory high above the ocean. Thanks to Cyril4j for posting this photo.

This summer heat has me thinking all about road trips: top down, music blaring and quirky roadside attractions. Route 66 passes through many U.S. cities and even has its own song, “(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66.” Next time you’re flying down this legendary highway, be sure to stop off at the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum. Thanks to karrie amelia for posting this photo.

Trip Photos: The Door to Hell

The Door to Hell is certainly a fitting name for this underground cavern in Derweze, Turkmenistan, which is filled with natural gas. In 1971, the ground under the drilling rig collapsed, which resulted in a very large hole in the ground. In order to avoid poisonous gas emissions, the gas was burned. Geologists hoped the fire would subside in a few days, but it has been burning ever since. Thanks to flydime for posting jaw-dropping photo.

Trip Photos: Scuba Diving

When planning a trip, destination is key, but activities can really influence where you end up going. Scuba diving is a great summertime activity. It allows you to explore a whole different world (the ocean makes up 70 percent of our planet!) and get to know the ocean on a much more intimate level. Thanks to javiy for posting this fun photo of a diver in the Red Sea.

China, more formally known as the People’s Republic of China, is an incredible country full of history, tradition and culture. Plum blossoms, one of China’s most beloved flowers, decorate the country in the wintertime. In addition to being known for their beauty, plum blossoms serve a variety of culinary purposes including being used in juices and liquor, being pickled and eaten as a salty treat and serving as the base for plum sauce.
