Puerto Vallarta is a very special place for a lot of different reasons. For some it's the stunningly scenic setting on Bahia Banderas, or the neat stucco houses that line the narrow cobblestone streets that climb the steep hills. One of the things that I think sets Puerto Vallarta apart from some of the other Mexican beach resorts is that at its heart, the town is still very Mexican. At resorts like Cancun, filled as they are with American chain restaurants, it's sometimes very, very hard to find a restaurant that offers good food period, much less good Mexican food. Fortunately, Puerto Vallarta has lots of good restaurants to choose from. One of my favorites is Oscar's Bar and Grill on Isla Cuale in the heart of downtown Puerto Vallarta.
