I see we meet again, Friday.

I see you brought the rain with you, this week. But even the gloomy spring clouds can’t dampen my happiness today. You see, Friday means that the workweek is ending. Friday means Dixieland jazz and wheat beer and date night.

Friday means sassy, red patent leather wedges and flippy skirts, rain or shine. And, of course, it’s time for Friday Favorites. Don your favorite traveling shoes and join me on my armchair adventures, won’t you?

Every two years my husband travels to a big international conference hosted and attended by a big bunch of academic muckety-mucks. Sounds like fun, huh? Well, in 2010, the host city? Is Beijing. I’m already working on conquering my flying phobia so I can tag along, and this post provided lots of motivation. The Amateur Traveler

Speaking of long plane rides, Australia is on my list of Places To See Before Stress Kills Me. However, the Australia I have in mind is more “surfing in a bikini” and less “hiking in the Outback.” What this guy? Dude, I could not do that. – Trail of Ants

All writers secretly long to be poets. Blog post, poem … it’s all the same, right? Wrong. This lovely little sonnet[lovely little sonnet|http://www.heatheronhertravels.com/algarve-spring-in-poetry/] about spring in the Mediterranean had me longing for lazy days smelling the flowers. – Heather On Her Travels

We’re headed to the ocean this summer, and I know I’ll spend the whole time chasing my 10-month-old son and scraping sand out of his mouth. Someday, though, maybe I’ll get to actually enjoy and explore the seashore.Vagabonding Life

That’s it, people. My bag is empty. Do a girl a solid and send me your favorite travel links, will you? All this wandering the globe can get exhausting. Send us an email at editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

See you at happy hour, friends. Peace out.

Is it me, or are the weeks speeding by?

It always feels like the longest days of the year are so very short. I woke up this morning and I swear, it was Monday. But when I looked at the calendar, lo and behold, it’s Friday.

Beautiful Friday! I love you, Friday. Let’s go out for drinks and if you’re especially sweet, I’ll let you cuddle me later.

Now that’s an offer no one could refuse.

You know what else you’d be silly to refuse? Friday Favorites. Yup, that’s right, fellow travelers. It’s time to go a-wandering on the Interwebs. Join me, won’t you?

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I went to Paris. Secret? I hated it. That was a long time ago, and maybe if I got a chance to go back, I’d see what all the fuss is about. Maybe next time, I’ll bring my kids, and torture them like my parents did me, by dragging me to Notre Dame in the scorching French summer sun. Or maybe I’ll follow the suggestions for five family favorites in Paris. – Travel Savvy Mom

You know where I haven’t been? Hawaii. I know, I know. I’m a Philistine. Turns out I’m not the only one; these hilarious true questions from tourists visiting the island paradise cracked me up. – Tripso

One thing about traveling that gets my knickers in a twist is a hotel bathroom. I live for good hotel bathrooms. Because when they suck? Dude, they really suck. Just ask this guy, who had to fight for his life every time he took a shower. – 9 to 5 Alternative

No one would ever accuse me of being happy-go-lucky. It just ain’t my thing. So maybe I need a trip to the Palace of Happiness. – On Our Own Path

Palace of Happiness. That has a nice ring, doesn’t it? Too bad there’s no such thing as a “kitchen of happiness.” Speaking of kitchens, it’s time for me to clean mine. I know you are so jealous of my glamorous life.

Got any faves of your own? Send the best links of the week to editor AT travelmuse DOT com. And enjoy these long days. They’ll be gone before you can blink your eyes.

You know what’s not cool? Watching Barbie movies when it’s 80-degrees and sunny outside. But that’s what I’m doing right now. At least Barbie gets to go places—sure, the places she goes are populated with fairies and evil toads, but at least she isn’t sitting in her family room watching a 4-year-old watch TV.

Good times.

But you know what is cool? Friday. Friday is cool. Because it’s time for Friday Favorites! Yes, I know, you can’t wait to hear what I came up with this week.

Back in the day, I used to be quite the world traveler. One summer my husband and I went overseas for a few weeks to visit his parents, who lived in England at the time. We took a weekend jaunt to Krakow, and it was perhaps the most romantic place I’ve ever seen, before or since. And I was there … with my mother-in-law. This post made me long to revisit the medieval city—sans in-laws. – Amateur Traveler

One of the best things about our visit to Poland was the super-sleek, ultra-modern hotel we stayed in. I know, “sleek” and “Poland” aren’t two words you think would go together. But I’ve stayed in my share of gross hotels, and this rant about bait-and-switch hotel-room photos made me laugh. – Travel Rants

I love getting first-run movies on demand when we stay in hotels—it’s one of the great joys in life. Me? I like thrillers. That’s why I’m so intrigued by the idea of being sent on a mission, without knowing how it will turn out. – Budget Travel

Not everyone can afford hotels and in-room movies these days, so this great post about trips that give back is both timely and altruistic. – Intelligent Travel

That’s a pretty good Friday reading list, if I do say so myself. Got stuff you want to share? Send it to us at editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go finish watching Barbie defeat an evil warlock.

I made a cake this week using a real, fresh whole coconut. My daughter watched me, pie-eyed, as I pried the hairy brown seed apart and proceeded to scrape the bright white meat away from the shell.

After I ripped my index finger open on one sharp piece, I freed all the flesh and went about making the cake batter.

I’ve been to only two truly tropical locales, and I never once ate a fresh coconut. I had to wait until I lived on the flat prairie of the American Midwest for that. Just that taste, though, made me dream about ditching this tiny town and heading out for parts unknown.

But I can’t do that—too much responsibility, not enough cold, hard cash. So instead, I wander the equator of the Internet, in search of my favorite dream destinations.

Without further ado, I give you my daydreams. Or, as I like to call them, Friday Favorites:

I loved this story of a girl and her dirt bike in the Mojave Desert. She dislocates her shoulder after taking a rough tumble, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying the view. – Camels and Chocolate

School’s out, and where’s a girl to go on vacation? Seoul, of course. An impromptu trip to this Asian city sounds like the ideal break from the grind of final exams. – Not Another Tourist

What’s $100 when you have the opportunity to explore a destination that is, truly, off the beaten path? That’s what one writer wants to know. – The Art of Non-conformity

I’ve been to the Louvre, but I was 15 years old and terribly bored. I also didn’t have a Nikon D80 SLR to take with me. The images in this post made me want to revisit Paris through a new lens. – Teacher Meets World

Lovely picks this week, if I do say so myself. Now please excuse me while I go eat some of that fresh coconut cake. If you find a story that ignites your wanderlust, send it to us at editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

Happy weekend, friends.

What does Friday mean to you?

To me, Friday is the day I am least likely to cook dinner. Friday means the next day is Saturday, a day filled with errands and family time. Friday means that I successfully navigated another week of motherhood, writing and wifely tasks—and everyone escaped with only minor injuries.

Friday also means that it’s time once again to share some of my favorite links of the week. We’ve got some good ones for you:

Speaking of motherhood, Sunday would be a very good day to thank yours for everything she taught you. Mara does exactly that, with a touching post about everything her late mother taught her about travel. – The Mother Of All Trips

My mother (and my father) changed my world when they packed my siblings and me up and relocated to England for three years. I spent my formative teens wandering the streets of London and living out “National Lampoon’s European Vacation.” This lovely photo essay brought me right back to the days of traveling with my parents through some of Europe’s beautiful places. – Miss Expatria

Traveling with three kids means a lot of luggage—especially when one of those kids is a 15-year-old girl. I am proud to say, however, that we never participated in what one blogger calls “the human wall of entitlement.” – Tripso

While my teenage adventures were limited to the western world, I may be traveling to China next summer. I admit that Asia intimidated me, until I read this post about a birthday bash for Buddha. On Our Own Path

No matter where I go, I can tell you one thing for sure—I will not be camping. But if you are, make sure you don’t tick off your neighbors by reading this guide to camping etiquette. – TravelBlogs

Right-o, loves. All this talk about international travel and mothers has me waxing nostalgic. I’m off to dig up some really bad photos of me in front of Stonehenge, and then I’m going to call my mom. Don’t forget to call yours on Sunday.

And P.S.—stop being so stingy. Send us your favorite travel links to editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

You have a good week, y’hear?

Good morning, fellow travelers! Why so cheerful this morning, you ask? I’m here at my favorite coffee shop, and iced tea is on the menu board today.

So what, you say? Who cares, you say?

Iced tea on the menu board means that summer is on its way to the prairie, and that makes me very, very happy. So happy, in fact, that I may just do a wee jig.

Now the girl sitting next to me is giving me a strange look. I don’t think she enjoyed my happy dance. But maybe you will enjoy this week’s Friday Favorites. Read on, friends, and find out.

Remember when TravelMusings hosted a debate about whether or not parents would pay more to sit in family-friendly sections on airplanes? Check out this blow-by-blow (and totally, hilariously funny) description of what it’s like to be chained to a toddler at 32,000 feet, and walk a mile in our shoes, yo. – Kaiser Mommy

My sister is throwing her annual Kentucky Derby party this weekend, and will host 49 adults and 30 kids in her home—on purpose. Yeah. She’s nuts. I can’t make it, but I may watch it on TV. If you’re lucky enough to actually be in Kentucky, you can get up close and personal with some amazing animals, without ever going to the track. – Intelligent Travel

Pakistan isn’t my idea of a relaxing vacation spot, but then again, my idea of roughing it is being forced to use an Ethernet cord to get my Internet connection. Here's an opinion on why intrepid travelers shouldn't overlook this troubled country. – Travel Junkie

I’ve been to lots of European countries, but somehow I overlooked Germany. When I read about this adorable hotel in Berlin, it made me daydream about taking my kids there when they grow up a little bit. – Heather On Her Travels

That’s all I have for you today, sweethearts. Got something you want everyone to read? Send it to us at editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

Have a nice weekend, y’hear?

I’ve got a case of whiplash—this week sped by, hours melting into one another until here I am, once again, on a Friday morning. The cornfield outside my kitchen window looks less brown than it did yesterday, and so maybe spring is on its way in deed and not just in name.

Tomorrow is Saturday, and we’ll spend the day tending to chores. My hands will be wiping noses and countertops, but my mind will be far away, on a salty seashore nearly 1,200 miles east of here.

Until then, until I can get in my car and go go go, I get to travel the Interwebs looking for tasty goodness to share with my pals here at TravelMusings. So without any further ado, I bring you this week’s Friday Favorites.

I rarely fly anymore, preferring not to gravity, thank you very much. But when I do, I can’t stand watching CNN on a loop through each airport along the way. Seems like this guy agrees with me. What’s your take? – Tripso

Packing for four people, two of whom still require significant adult supervision (I won’t say who) is one reason we don’t fly as often as we used to. Our luggage needs a separate ticket, and packing it is mostly my responsibility. That’s why I am relieved to hear that you can, indeed, put your kids to work gathering their own gear. The Mother of All Trips

Traveling isn’t high on our list of priorities right now. Not as high as, say, eating. But this post reminds me that sometimes its OK to splurge, even when things aren’t going as well as we’d all hoped they would. – Nomadic Matt

Somehow I missed Earth Day—it might have had something to do with the metric ton of disposable diapers in my house—but it seems like everyone else is onboard with green travel these days. – Go Green Travel Green

And finally, because my weary eyes needed to see something beautiful this week, I offer you this glorious field of yellow flowers. You’re welcome. – Nerd’s Eye View

I won’t lie, folks. I’m beat. This week whipped my **** like a jockey beats his horse. I may need a week at the spa to recover. While I’m tending to my bruised psyche, won’t you take a moment or two to send me some of your favorite travel links?

Pretty please?

Don’t be heartless. Send them to editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

And have a good week, y’hear?

You know what? Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.

Maybe it’s because my parents forced us to listen to the soft-rock station on every single car trip in the history of time. Or maybe it’s because rainy days and Mondays kind of suck.

You know what doesn’t suck? Friday! Friday is my salvation. This week found me solo-parenting while my husband was out of town for a job interview, and today he gets home. Plus, it’s time for Friday Favorites.

What else could a girl ask for? Friday, I blow you a giant wet kiss. Why, Amy, are you in a good mood? Yes, yes, I am. Mostly because of these awesome links I have the pleasure to share with you this morning:

The first time my husband and I went to London together, I forced him to eat at Pizza Hut in Piccadilly Circus, and oh, my lord, I never heard the end of it. That’s why I loved this piece on eating locally when you travel. The Lost Girls

And travel season it is, with sunny weather just around the corner—please, God, let there be sunny weather soon. Going on a road trip with the family? The Wall Street Journal’s Juggle shares tales and tips from the open road.Juggle

There is only one holiday I am allowed to have at home, and that’s Easter. I go all out—Peeps, chocolate eggs, ham—you know, the works. I stubbornly refuse to go anywhere for this egg-cellent day, but this post almost convinced me to abandon the egg hunt for exotic locales. – Itinerant Londoner

And finally, our fine editor, Donna Airoldi, took pity on this busy blogger and sent me one of her favorite posts of the week: The Washington Post looks at two travel planning sites, one of which gathers the lowest available bus fares. Here’s what she has to say about it: “I still travel by bus sometimes, so I appreciate the aggregator.” – The Washington Post

(P.S. Um, Donna? Bus travel? I love you ... but you're nuts.)

That’s all I’ve got, my peeps. Got a great site and want to share the love? Send us your suggestions to editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

Peace out.

Hello, my lovelies! Welcome to the latest installment of Friday Favorites, TravelMusing’s round-up of the best of the old Interwebs.

Can I just tell you that Friday Favorites is the best time of my week? I get to log on to some super-awesome Web sites and wish myself far, far away from the maddening crowd … of my children.

Children love to travel, too, and one wandering mama lists the top five ways you can tell your kid is a pro. Meg’s excellent blog was on hiatus for awhile while she and her brood relocated to the wilds of Hartford, Conn., but she’s back online and back in the saddle. Good to see you, Meg! – Backpack to Buggy

Sometimes, in fact, kids hold their — uh, stuff — together better than the grown-ups do. Just ask this poor guy, whose tummy upset got him arrested after a dust-up over the business-class loo on trip home from the Honduras. Talk about a — wait for it — crappy flight! – Tripso

One of my favorite family-travel blogs got a make-over recently, and to celebrate, the author is heading out of town without the kids. Take a gander at Mara’s new digs, and remind yourself why sometimes it’s good just to be a grown-up, and not a parent. – The Mother of All Trips

Looking for a great destination to go solo for awhile? Read this review of the Moon Guidebook for Thailand and interview of its author, Suzanne Nam, and do some dreaming—or go ahead and plan a trip. Recession? What recession? – Nomadic Matt’s Travel Site

Speaking of the recession, did you know that you might be getting a refund on that pricey plane ticket you bought before airlines started dropping their prices? Yup, that means cash in your pocket before you hit the continent. – The Brooklyn Nomad

I do love spending time trolling for the best of the best travel blogs, but it’s always good to have another perspective of what’s hot and what’s not. So do this blogger a solid and send me some of your good stuff, travel-style.

C’mon, you know you want to. Don’t be a hater. Send me your Friday faves to editor AT travelmusings DOT com.

Good morning, fellow travelers!

It’s that most glorious of mornings—Friday. Around here, Friday means preschool, alone time for mama and the promise of happy hour. What’s not to like about that?

You know what else I like about Fridays? Why, Friday Favorites, of course! Join me, won’t you, for my virtual trip around the old Interwebs?

Friday is the culmination of a wild week in my household. It’s the day when bedtime seems like it won’t come for, like, a week. That’s why I plan to steal this hilarious sign on my next trip to Georgia. Moms, can I get an amen? – Vagabondish

On that note, serenity is hard to achieve when you’re a work-at-home mother to two kids under five. It’s no wonder that by Friday I’m totally frazzled. That’s why this gorgeous photograph of Cuero y Salado National Park caught my eye. Have you ever seen anything more beautifully peaceful? – Notes From The Road

Last week I asked my daughter if she’d like to go to her grandmother’s house on an airplane. “Or blimp?” she replied, hopefully. I was skeptical, until I came across this post about traveling by zeppelin. – What A Trip by Nancy Brown

Speaking of kids, doesn't a vacation that includes running them like ponies until they collapse sound like heaven? This city girl has a hankerin' for a ranch vacation, and this guide to kids and the wild west leads the way. – CiaoBambino!

April calls to mind my wedding day, as our anniversary is April 13th. That’s right, every few years our anniversary is on Friday the 13th. I’m not sure what that says about us. What does your wedding date say about you? Or how about the venue? Was it wild and crazy, or traditional and sedate? If you’re looking to get hitched—and I highly recommend it—check out this cool guide to unique wedding venues. – BootsnAll Travel

That's it for this week, friends. Now I'm off to make Missisippi Mud Cake for the preschool spring concert. What are you doing today? And please, help a busy mom out. Send us your Friday Favorites, to editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

I can’t believe it’s Friday again, mostly because this past week somehow escaped the normal constraints of time and lasted for AN ENTIRE MONTH.

Seriously, this was the longest week in the history of time, wasn’t it? Or was it just me, with my bad knee and the 7-month-old who is practicing walking?

OK, so maybe it’s just me.

Anyhoo, here we are again, and I’ve had a great time rounding up this week’s Friday Favorites for your reading pleasure.

Nepotism has it’s place, so please go read about our own Donna Airoldi’s emotional experience at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. I was feeling bitter that Donna was in Israel and I was stuck in my family room with holes in my leg, and then I read her moving post about placing her private wish into a crevice in the historic religious landmark. – TravelMusings

Everyone has a vice—is yours traveling? Find out by reading this “Top Ten” list of signs you might be a travel addict. – Nomadic Matt

If you’re like me, your kids are strapped into their car seats tighter than John Glenn orbiting the moon. Check out this great guide to choosing a car seat for a road trip, and Godspeed. – DeliciousBaby

My docs cleared me for summertime travel, and it can’t come soon enough. I’m already dreaming about long afternoons on Indian Neck Beach. On our way there, maybe we’ll stop at the Eric Carle Museum. I’ve read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” about 8,000 times, so it seems fitting. – Mother of All Trips

Many of you—not me (pout)—are going on spring break next week. So what’s the most important thing to bring with you? – Tripso

There you have it, the best of the week. What’s on your list? Send your picks to editor AT travelmuse DOT com. Happy weekend!

You guys ever read “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”?

Think all the way back now, back to your freshman year of high school—James Thurber's classic tale about a man whose daydreams take him away from his dull, everyday life?

Well, just call me Walter. Or Walterina? Walterna? What’s the feminine form of Walter? Oh, who cares.

I’ve been cooped up in my little house on the prairie since last week, following knee surgery. And by “cooped up,” I mean “trapped in my house with my husband, my mother, and two children who seems determined to find a way to lean on my bad leg.”

But! Friday Favorites to the rescue! I surfed the ol’ Interwebs for cool travel links, indulging my inner Walter Mitty. So where did I go? Read on, fellow travelers, and find out:

If anyone needed a laugh this week, it was me. I think the surgeon accidentally removed my sense of humor. But this hilarious post about one airline’s quest to use social media to recruit pilots cured me of my bad mood. – The Cranky Flier

Most people love March because it signifies the end of winter. Me? I love March because it means Peeps, those delicious marshmallow treats, will be all over the grocery stores. And, apparently, all over the world.Intelligent Travel

Because I’m a glass-half-empty (or is it completely drained?) kind of gal, I loved this round up of most disappointing travel experiences. What? Misery loves company. Want to come over? I didn’t think so. – TravelBlogs.com

Want to tame a 4-year-old hopped up on refined sugar? Give her your laptop and let her watch the cool slideshow that accompanies this piece on sled dogs in Montana. My daughter and I had a lovely little cuddle while we learned something new. – The New York Times

Spring means that summer is just around the bend (yay!), followed quickly by Road Trip Season (boo!). Take a look at the best gear for keeping the kids contained during that long drive to (insert annoying family obligation here). – Traveling Mamas

It’s time for me to take another pain pill and drool on my pillow for awhile. Got something you think we should read? Send it to us at editor AT travelmuse DOT com. Happy trails!

This has been a heck of a week, folks. Like, maybe one of the Top 10 All-Time Hardest Weeks for this blogger. I, for one, almost wept with gratitude when I looked at the calendar today.

Friday means Saturday is just around the bend. Friday means the babysitter comes. Friday means there's a chance I might go to Happy Hour with my husband.

It also means it’s time for TravelMusing’s Friday Favorites! This week, I needed to get my funny on, folks.

Moms and dads know all about diaper changes on the go. Kayt Sukel shares her list of strangest places she’s changed her son’s pants, and she’s got some good ones. Go share your own stories and share her pain, will you? – TravelSavvyMom

This next one made me laugh like a 14-year-old boy. I dare you not to giggle while watching this hilarious clip from CNN. – Tripso

There’s nothing funny at all about the current economic climate, but one mother makes the case for dreaming of travel to far-off places. – The Mother of All Trips

Speaking of dreams, how about a trip to Switzerland? I loved the photos in this great post about how to enjoy the mountains if you’re a non-skier. I’ll read this one again when I’m recovering from knee surgery next week. – Here To Geneva

Not going anywhere anytime soon? Like me? Live vicariously through other people’s vacation photos. Our own talented Calista Chandler offers some super tips on finding great images on Flickr, as if the Internetz didn’t suck up enough of your time already. – TravelMuse Photo Blog

I’m outie, people. Time for you to ante up—please, for the love of Pete, send us something, will you? Send your own Friday Favorites to editor AT travelmuse DOT com.

It’s been a long week, hasn’t it? But never fear, intrepid travelers. Friday is here, and somewhere in the world it’s time for a stiff drink. It’s also time for TravelMusing’s Friday Favorites!

Nothing catches my attention like the words “nearly naked.” The Coney Island Polar Bear Club and Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises are teaming up for a benefit to help raise funds for the Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs several of New York City’s zoos: take a Feb. 28 Hudson River cruise in your bathing suit and help the real polar bears. —NewYorkology

One California family of three is leaving everything behind to start a new life in the jungles of South America. Jen asks what we’d take with us. Me? My laptop and wireless router. What? They don’t work in the jungle? Yeah, I’ll be staying home. —One Plus Two

Do you love your city so much you want to marry it? Albert Lee of Philadelphia does. He tells us why he hearts his hometown. The photo with this post had me humming the theme to “Rocky” all morning. —Intelligent Travel

Last but not least, combining kids with travel requires a serious sense of humor. Parents will appreciate the sentiments behind this hilarious road sign.Vagabondish

That’s it, that’s all I’ve got, folks. My weekend travel will be limited to a trip to Target, but at least I get to live vicariously. And stop being so shy—send us some of the great stuff you’re reading on the old Interwebs, will you? Send your faves to editor@travelmuse.com.

Bottom’s up!

Hard to believe it’s Friday again, isn't it? But it is, oh, thank God, it is.

What does that mean? It means happy hour, crowded late-evening flights and that tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. It also means it's time for Friday Favorites, TravelMusing's round-up of great links.

Traveling with your mother-in-law anytime soon? For the love of all things holy, go read about how to handle traveling with the grandparents — Fodors.com, by Jamie Pearson of TravelSavvyMom.

You can’t put a price on love, right? Those who waited until the last minute to show their sweetie some love can make up for it by chartering a private plane. Sure, it costs $3,500, but it comes with chocolate-covered strawberries. — Tripso.com

Take your kids on an educational trip and get some free beer. FInd out why one pregnant mom took her kids on a tour of Redhook Brewery in Woodinville, Wash. — DeliciousBaby.com

I know that pesky groundhog saw his shadow (bad groundhog, bad!) but winter has to end sometime. Catch spring fever with a great guide to camping trip essentials. — Matt's Nomadic Travel Site

Speaking of warmer weather, this February has me yearning for sun and sea. If you’re planning a winter escape, how about 36 hours in Antigua? A girl can dream, can’t she? — The New York Times

What’s on your reading list this week? Do tell.
