It’s not often that Disney parks have great savings packages because, let’s face it, they don’t need help attracting visitors. However, due to the slowing economy, Disney’s hopped on the goofy foot and decided to offer a great package for Disney World in Orlando guests. When you buy a four-night package, you’ll get three nights FREE. And that includes theme park tickets!

For most stays from Jan. 4 to June 27, 2009, if you buy a non-discounted four-night/four-day Walt Disney Company Magic Your Way package, you’ll get three extra days and nights for free. The Magic Your Way package includes a stay at a Disney Value Resort, with your choice for anything from luxury to campground, and a single-park ticket per person per day. All guests per accommodation must have the same ticket and package option for it to be valid.

Think that’s a deal? Disney will also throw in a $200 Disney gift card, valid anywhere from Disney parks to Disney Stores across the United States, when you travel anytime between Jan. 4 to 9, and from Jan. 19 to March 29. “This special travel offer makes it even easier for guests to enjoy a magical, memory-making Disney vacation in 2009,” says Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton.

According to Disney, a family of four can spend seven days and seven nights at the Happiest Place on Earth for as little as $1,271, with a savings of more than $300. However, rates vary according to guest ages, travel dates and lodging choice; so the best way to figure out how much this deal can save your family is to visit the Disney Web site and book your package disneyworld.disney.go.com.

A few years ago, I spent a New Year’s getaway in Santa Fe. The dusting of snow, cool mountain air and flickering farolitos (paper lanterns) were perfect additions to the winter holiday scene.

Santa Fe’s a great winter destination, and snagging a deal makes it even better. The beautiful adobe Inn on the Alameda is celebrating its 23rd anniversary by offering guests a $23 anniversary rate. Stay for three nights in a row in any room type for select dates before Feb. 28, 2009, and pay only $23 for the third night. Set in the heart of the city, the hotel is a great location to serve as your home base as you explore the galleries of Canyon Road and the history of the old Plaza.

The special rate isn’t available to book online, so call the Inn at 888-984-2121 to reserve, or visit www.innonthealameda.com for more information about blackout dates and restrictions for the anniversary discount.

Do you know someone who loves ancient Egyptian culture? Do they continue to surprise you with interesting (yet useless) facts about Amenhotep and mummification techniques? If this sounds like someone you know, I may have found the perfect holiday gift. Consider taking your history buff to Atlanta for an unforgettable exhibit entitled, “Tutankhamun the Golden King and the Great Pharaohs” at the Atlanta Civic Center.

From Nov. 15 to April 19, 2009, the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel will be offering a King Tut/First Emperor VIP Package. The package includes one night of deluxe accommodations at Atlanta Marriott Marquis, breakfast for two, two VIP tickets with front of the line access to the exhibit (even if it’s sold out), two tickets for the First Emperor exhibition and complimentary hotel parking, for rates from  $259 to $429.

The exhibition includes Egyptian must-sees like the tomb of Tutankhamun, jewelry from his tomb and those of other pharaohs, and much more.

TravelMuse’s Nicole Fancher wrote about an election day deal at KSL Resorts last week on the blog, but here are a few more.

Election Day is less than two weeks away, and to accommodate for the hype surrounding this year’s presidential campaign, several hotels around the world are offering special packages to either get you prepared for the upcoming election or help you detox from the stress, from sipping on a tangy “Obamarita” or enjoying a relaxing massage—election-news free.

Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island

To gain support for this year’s candidates, hotels are organizing events, promotional dinners and offering special room rates. As part of the Hail to the Chief: Election Night Package at the Ritz-Carlton on Amelia Island in Florida, visitors can enjoy several luxuries including overnight accommodations in a presidential suite, private security and a fireworks display from a private balcony for the Nov. 4 election, all for $15,000 a night.

The River Inn, Washington, D.C.

For a less expensive way to celebrate this year’s election, The River Inn in Washington, D.C., is offering political party packages starting at $249 through Nov 4th. The “Team Elephant Package” includes a one-year subscription to the National Review. The hotel is also offering the “Team Donkey Package” which includes a complimentary parking for your “green-friendly hybrid car,” as well as a “civil liberties coffee mug.” As part of either political party package, 5 percent of your room rate will be donated to the respective political party.

Vegas.com

For a discount on your election vacation, Vegas.com is offering special hotel deals now through Dec 31. When you spend a minimum of $200 on your hotel stay and enter your favorite presidential candidate on the Web page's own “[official ballot|http://www.vegas.com/crapshoot/],” you can get a $20 discount on your Vegas vacation.

W Hotels

To encourage worldwide voter registration, until Nov. 11, W Hotels is offering the “Declare Yourself Blue” and “Declare Yourself Red” packages, starting at $399 a night. Included are a complimentary “Declare Yourself Book” and an Elephant or Donkey Vote T-Shirt. All the proceeds will go to the Declare Yourself campaign.

Moonstone Hotels

From Nov. 4 to Jan. 31, participating Moonstone Hotel Properties in California and Oregon are offering room rates as low as $69 if you show up to check-in proudly sporting your “I Voted” sticker.

Distress From Elections

If you’re tired of hearing and reading about all the elections, the Five Gables Inn & Spa in St. Michaels, Md., is offering the Beltway Buster package starting at $595 for stays prior to Nov. 10. Included are a 60-minute Swedish massage and a $100 gift certificate for dinner. What’s more, you can still get your dose of morning news from The Washington Post, but the hotel will remove all the election coverage in the newspaper. Talk about an election-free vacation.

So, how are you going to prepare for the elections?

A few weeks back, my son’s pediatrician told us he might have a condition that couldn’t be diagnosed in our small city and that we needed to take him to St. Louis Children’s Hospital to see a specialist.

Of course our first thoughts were for our boy—no parent ever wants to hear the words “children’s hospital” and “breathing issue” in the same sentence.

Once we got over our initial shock, we started planning our trip, which would require a three-hour car ride with our infant and our 3-year-old daughter.

That meant at least one night in a hotel.

Logistics are the last thing you want to think about when your kid is facing a potentially serious medical diagnosis. Not to mention that, in today’s world, medical costs are mounting. So not only are you concerned about your baby, you also are worried about how you will pay for it all—the co-pays, the gas or plane tickets for the trip, the restaurant and the hotel room.

Hotel Deals for Family Hospital Stays

Fortunately, there are resources for families who need a place to stay near their child’s medical caregivers. Lots of hotels offer special rates for patients of nearby hospitals.

Hotel Nexis in Seattle offers a special block of rooms for patients of that city’s medical centers, along with a complimentary shuttle service to and from area hospitals. The Drury Inn and Suites St. Louis also has a special rate for families of patients, and the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh is a luxury inn that offers a rate of $99 per night for patients of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and their families.

If you are unsure where to stay and whether or not special rates are offered, ask the hospital staff, or do a quick Google search with the name of your hospital and the phrase “special hotel rates.”

Our son is fine, and he saw a doctor here at home. But I rest a little easier knowing that if we ever do need to travel for medical reasons, finding a hotel room will be the least of our concerns.
