Saba, known as the Unspoiled Queen, is the smallest island of the Netherlands Antilles in the Caribbean. Formerly known for its booming shoe industry, Saba is home to charming local villages spread throughout the island.
From scuba diving to birdwatching, Saba is an ideal setting for a romantic quiet getaway or an adventurous weekend. Although lacking some of the Caribbean’s famous sandy beaches, there are several nature trails that take you past unspoiled landscape with a view of Mount Scenery, the highest point on the island. You can also explore some of the island’s smaller mountains, by going rock climbing or bouldering. In order to preserve the island’s natural and cultural heritage, Saba is expanding its ecotourism options and recently established the Saba Conservation Foundation. Saba also has popular shopping destinations, such as Around the Bend in Windwardside, which features authentic crafts made from Saba lace, a unique needlecraft made by the local women.
