Sunset Coast is full of relaxing beach towns, safe swimming beaches and choice surf spots; it also includes the Sunset Hinterland—the bushland—home to the Yanchep National Park which house kangaroo, koalas, and the stunning Crystal Cave. A short train ride south of Perth is Fermantle, a port town with a growing artists community. Rottnest Island, a 30-minute ferry ride from Perth, is a popular destination for cycling, snorkeling and golfing; no cars are allowed.

With a population of over 1 million, Perth is one of the most isolated metropolitan areas in the world; the nearest city of comparable size, Adelaide, is over 1,300 miles away.
