The region of Tortuguero lies on the northeastern coast of Costa Rica consisting mainly of Tortuguero National Park and tiny, quiet Tortuguero village. The area is a popular ecotourism destination most famous as an important green sea turtle nesting ground; other nesting turtle species include hawksbill, loggerhead, olive ridley and leatherback.
