Best hotels, facts and information in Hamburg

Hamburg, Germany’s second-largest city, lends itself to lots of natural space—14 percent of the city is dedicated to green areas. Located in northern Germany, Hamburg is also home to Europe’s second-largest port, Hamburg Harbor, and the city-center lies at the convergence of Elbe, Alster and Bille Rovers. Alster Lake lies in the heart of Hamburg, and is full of recreational boaters and joggers along its lakeside parks. A city surrounded by water—the North Sea lies to the west, the Black Sea to the east—Hamburg boasts more than 2,302 bridges. The city also has a vibrant arts and entertainment scene: The Hamburg State Opera hosts performances by the John Neumeier Ballet Company, accompanied by the 175-year-old Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra. Hamburg loves its festivals and markets, which include the Mo&Friese Children’s Short Film Festival and the open-air Fish Market, which dates back to 1703. A city that embraces cultural diversity, more than half of Hamburg’s 4,000 restaurants feature foreign cuisine.
