Legend holds that Seville, Spain was founded by Hercules and this mighty city remains a powerhouse for culture and history. The capital of Andalucía in the southwest region of the country, Seville boasts an inviting and celebratory environment that welcomes families with a sense of adventure.

Spring time is a great time for festivals. You may catch Semana Santa (Holy Week), a religious festival that includes marching brotherhoods and floats featuring the Virgin Mary and culminating on Good Friday; or the annual Fería de Abril (Spring Fair), a weeklong celebration that includes drinking, dancing, tapas and many late nights in the celebration’s temporary tent city.

Start in the old city, home to the Cathedral of Seville (one of the largest cathedrals in the world), and the Casa de Pilatos, a 16th century mansion. Then be sure to check out María Luisa Park and La Maestranza bullring. Stroll along the riversides or cross the Triana Bridge over the Guadalquívir River; wind narrow streets in the Triana quarter, which houses the church of Santa Ana; do as the Sevillians and sample delicious tapas plates from several bars until you’ve had your fill.
