Guanaja is the most mountainous of the principal Bay Islands, located in the western Caribbean, just off the north coast of Honduras. With its white sand beaches, spectacular coral reef, lush green hillsides (complete with waterfalls) and no roads, Guanaja is the choice for travelers who really want to get away from it all.
The words Christopher Columbus uttered when he set his eyes on Guanaja on his last voyage were, “Green, green, very green.” It’s easy to get lost in the wealth of green here, whether you choose to hike or bike. But if crystalline blue is more of a color favorite, water sports abound from diving and snorkeling to kayaking and fishing.
Want to see the Caribbean the way it used to be? Put on your flip-flops and get away to the Bay Islands of Honduras.
