The Republic of Liberia is a country on the west coast of Africa and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. The country was first founded by a colony of freed slaves in 1847.
Liberia is covered in lush tropical rainforests and surrounded by a series of local beaches such as Elwa Beach and Ce Ce Beach which are located in Monrovia, the country’s capital. Some of Monrovia’s popular historical landmarks include Blo Degbo, a large rock shaped like a human face; Centennial Pavillion, a hall built in 1947 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Liberia’s indepedence; and Providence Island, the originial landing spot of the first American slaves who settled in Liberia.
