Lithuania Vacation and Trip Information

Lithuania is one of the Baltic States in Europe, and once, the largest medieval European state in the region. After centuries of feudal warfare, a 200-year joint empire with Poland, conquest by Russia, and a Soviet Union occupation, Lithuania finally became an independent republic in 1991.

Today, Lithuania is a flourishing country with one of the strongest economies in the Baltic region. It’s also a country of picturesque natural beauty. Lithuania’s landscape features rolling hills, lakes and countless rivers, like the Nemunas, which flows to the Baltic Sea. Lithuania’s Curonian Spit National Park is a famous 60-mile stretch of sand dunes and pine trees that hugs the Baltic; also called the “amber coast,” you can still find the fossilized resin washed ashore.  

Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, is a beautiful Baroque city built at the convergence of the Vilnia and Neris rivers. Though beaten and plundered through ages of medieval and modern warfare, Vilnius has retained a rich arts and cultural heritage. The city boasts several internationally acclaimed theaters and orchestras, including the Vilnius Youth Theater and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.

Other Lithuanian sites include the water town of Trakai and its famous Island Castle, the open-air Rumsiskes Museum of Folk Art, and the Centre of Europe—the actual geographical center of the continent.
