Trinidad and Tobago, Caribbean islands off the eastern coast of Venezuela in South America, form a country full of diverse wildlife and numerous celebrations.
The main island, Trinidad, holds the country’s capital, Port of Spain, known for its fabric merchants and shopping. Also home to more than 450 bird species, the island features the Asa Wright Nature Centre, a bird-watching haven. The smaller island, Tobago, is a popular diving location.
Hike through rain forests or cycle through the countryside. During Carnival and other street parades, expect to see plenty of the country’s national instrument, the steel drum, also known as the steel pan.
