Pescadero is a small farming and arts community located two miles east of Highway 1 in San Mateo County, Calif., and about 17 miles south of Half Moon Bay. It’s easy to reach and has a lot more to offer than is first apparent when you stroll into its three-street downtown.
Antique shops, galleries, arts-and-crafts boutiques, gourmet grocery stores and a darn fine seafood restaurant (Duarte’s) line the streets, along with an excellent Mexican taqueria inside the corner gas station. Be sure to visit Harley Farms Goat Dairy for out-of-this-world goat cheese, and pick up homemade artichoke bread at Arcangeli Grocery to go with it.
During summers, Pescadero is a weekend destination for denizens of San Francisco and the Bay Area. They come to not only take in the quaint town, but also to relax at its gorgeous beach, hike or horseback ride in the three nearby state parks or just chill out among the locals.
