Gilroy, Calif., is located in southern Santa Clara County, about an hour south of San Jose and two hours south of San Francisco. The city is known for its garlic crop and annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, which takes place the last weekend of July and attracts lovers of the pungent bulb from all over the country to savor everything from garlic french fries to garlic ice cream.
