Minturn is a former mining town nestled between Vail and Beaver Creek where Gore Creek meets the Eagle River in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. An Old West boom town during the industrial era of the late 1800s, Minturn was incorporated in 1904. Like many such towns, it needed to reinvent itself after the mining industry and rail lines began to recede.
Today tourism is one of its mainstay industries. Minturn is the oldest town in Vail Valley and boasts restaurants, art galleries and charming stores, including a few Western antique shops. There’s even a winery with tastings (the Minturn Cellars Winery). On Saturdays, visit the Minturn Market for entertainment, local arts-and-crafts and local produce. In winter, the market features live reindeer and dog-sled rides, sure to be a hit with families.
Whether you visit Vail in winter or summer, read our latest issue cover to learn the ins and outs of this world-renown resort valley.
Nestled along the Eagle River near Vail, Minturn has retained its old-time charm.
