Given the enormous size of this metropolis, sprawling across 840 square miles of land, it takes a bit of doing to get out of town. Once you're on one of the interstates that race through and around Jacksonville, a world of intriguing stops awaits.

Castillo de San Marcos Tour the massive Castillo de San Marcos, visit the Fountain of Youth and the Marineland Ocean Resort, where you can play with dolphins and explore a reef. Dine at Conch House, then climb to the top of the St. Augustine Lighthouse and take in the view.

Anastasia State Recreation Area Anastasia State Recreation Area is a favorite among those who love to fish, while Faver-Dykes State Park features a four mile long canoe trail. Admire the historic homes in the Colonial Spanish Quarter, have lunch at Schooner's Seafood House, then tour Mission of Nombre De Dios, the country's oldest.

Jacksonville Museum of Science and History Located downtown are the Jacksonville Museum of Science and History, the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens and the Jacksonville Maritime Museum. Relax by the river at Metropolitan Park, then enjoy dinner at Motoga Japanese Steak House.
