Amelia Island off the northeastern Florida shore is a charming, historic area full of live oak trees and well-preserved Victorian-era mansions and homes. It’s also a nature-lovers paradise; its clean beaches, wooded parks, piers, and boat harbors offer a range of activities for vacationers: including hiking, cycling, boating, kayaking, swimming and fishing. Amelia Island offers many opportunities to view wildlife such as Loggerhead and Green sea turtles, dolphins, manatees and alligators.
The main town on Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach, offers specialty stores, antique shops, and several fine restaurants and bed and breakfasts. Amelia Island has several resorts, golf clubs, and hosts the annual Bausch and Lomb Championship women’s pro tennis tournament at Amelia Island Plantation. Amelia Island’s annual Amelia Book Island Festival in early October is a four-day reading and writing event that include luncheons, workshops, lectures and storytelling.
