It may surprise some visitors to Kentucky to learn about the state’s abundance of natural resources and attractions. Kentucky is also home to one of the world’s longest cave systems in Mammoth Cave National Park, as well as more than 50 national and state parks, forests and recreation areas. Kentucky also has the most miles of running water in the contiguous United States—more than 1,000 miles of rivers and water impoundments.
While in the Bluegrass State, listen to some bluegrass music or have a mint julep at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, one of the most prestigious horse racing events in the country. Other Kentucky attractions that are must-sees include: Lake Cumberland and Cumberland Falls, the Red River Gorge and the Louisville Zoo, which attracts more than 800,000 visitors each year.
