Iron River, Michigan, was named for the high amount of iron mined in the city in the 19th century. Situated in the state’s Upper Peninsula, Iron River offers an abundance of outdoor recreational activities: fishing, golfing, cross-country skiing, game and deer hunting, camping and boating. Check out the annual Iron County Fair in late August, which includes a demolition derby and rides; visit the outdoor Iron County Historical Museum; or have a picnic in one of the area parks.
