Chill out in Eugene, Oregon’s laid-back college town, located in the southern end of the central Willamette Valley. In Eugene, you’re never more than an hour or so from the coast, the mountains, great skiing, river rafting, camping and wine country. “Track Town USA” is home to Hayward Field and the University of Oregon, made famous by Olympian Steve Prefontaine’s record-breaking races there as a student.

Eugene is also known for its several microbreweries, happy hippie culture, extensive rain and an array of outdoor offerings. One of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the United States, Eugene has an extensive bike path and urban cycling system; rent from dozens of bike shops in town to explore downtown Eugene, ride along the Willamette River or take your pick of mountain bike trails. Eugene also offers many parks perfect for day hikes, including Mount Pisgah, Spencer’s Butte and Skinner’s Butte, which also features the Columns, a popular local rock climbing spot.
