Smuggler’s Notch, a cozy ski vacation spot in Jeffersonville, Vermont, is home to a rich variety of recreational activities. At the foot of Mount Mansfield, “Smuggs” offers families everything from shopping to skiing to canoeing.
Named after smugglers who once illegally brought goods, such as alcohol, through the area across the Canadian border, Smuggler’s Notch is barely half a century old. A sweet area speckled with villages, the Notch has slowly grown to be a popular destination recognized as a top resort by travel media.
Take in the scenery along Route 108, adjacent to the Brewster River, which runs through the Notch; spend some time hiking, fishing, biking, snowshoeing or ice climbing. For more advanced skiers, the steep, rocky Sterling and Madonna Mountains will surely challenge your skills.
Recommended destinations for parents whose teens would rather be grounded than go on a vacation with the family.
