When it comes to quiet St. John, entertainment is sort of a misnomer. Not that there isn't nightlife, music, dancing, or bars, and all the things that make the Caribbean special—it's all here, but there's a difference. Nature reigns here and nightlife is augmented by magical moonlight, the melodic chirping of the coqui (tree) frogs, the sound of the sea lapping on pure white beaches and more. In fact, for many it may be all the entertainment you will need on St. John.

Needless to say, there are things to do. In Cruz Bay, the evening bar scene gets quite lively especially on weekends when the nights are warm and the music warmer. A fun place to stop is Cafe Wahoo's at Wharfside Village, one of the popular bars around the islands. At Gallow's Point, also in Cruz Bay, is Zozo's Ristorante which is the perfect peaceful place for a sunset cocktail.

Both the Westin Resort St. John and Caneel Bay have entertainment, but it is best to call them directly once you arrive, to catch up on their current line-up.

Not far on the south side of town is the Lime Inn, a lively dinner/bar scene with good food and great company. Another spot to check out on the weekends is the Inn at Tamarind Court in town. The loudest music comes probably from Fred's Patio also in Cruz Bay, a dance scene on Wednesdays and Fridays—local Caribbean style—right across from the Lime Inn.

One of the most popular night spots on the island is at Coral Bay, something out of Margaritaville, where Skinny Legs Bar is located. There is a TV for sports-watching and sometimes live music. There is also Woody's, right on the street, where you can see it all and be seen, and watch it all from a second-story balcony.

Probably the best way to find out what is happening is to question local residents once you get there. St. Johns is the kind of place where everybody knows what everybody's doing at every given moment! Seasonal activities, parties, and fairs will be advertised in local publications.

Also check Connections, a "communications" center right in Cruz Bay, down the street from the ferry dock, where posters and announcements and bulletin boards abound. The residents of St. John love a reason to celebrate and you'll find myriad festivals, celebrations, events, and contests—in other words, 'happenings'—year 'round. Pick up a copy of the Tradewinds or the St. John's Times, two local newspapers, or the Virgin Islands Daily News, for announcements of what is happening.
