Composed of seven countries (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua and Belize), Central America is a region of land that connects North America to South America. Volcanic mountain ranges line Central America, which was first inhabited by a number of native peoples and was later conquered by the Spanish in the 16th century.

Despite political turmoil in some areas, Central America is currently undergoing major changes, thereby making its way up on travelers’ must-see destinations list. Growing tourism in Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua are continuing to appeal to travelers, due to the rich history and luscious surroundings throughout the area. Travel between countries or take a cruise ship tour around individual areas to get a sense of the culture, environment and people that draw visitors to Central America.
