Part of the Virgin Islands archipelago, this British territory in the Caribbean is a favorite beach destination for honeymooners and scuba divers alike. The BVIs, as they are commonly known, consist of more than 50 islands; the main ones include Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke.
For luxury and outdoor excursions, Tortola has an array of protected bays ideal for snorkel and scuba adventures, and three national parks—Sage Mountain, Mount Healy and Queen Elizabeth—offer great hiking through some remaining primeval rain forest stands. Visit Virgin Gorda for some of the most beautiful beaches and The Baths, a series of pools and grottos beneath giant boulders.
If you want something really mellow, the lazy island of Jost Van Dyke offers a sweet respite complete with beach bars and the Calypso-playing owner of Foxy’s Bar. Anegada is a flat island made entirely of coral and is surrounded by shallow turquoise waters, ideal for bonefishing trips—with your island guide, of course.
