Grenada is an island nation in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. The nation, which consists of three major islands, Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique, is often referred to as “The Spice Isle” because of its locally grown spices (such as nutmeg, cloves and ginger) as well as its popular music and dance culture.
There are several annual festivities hosted on the island’s capital, St. George, including the Grenada Carnival as well as local Saturday markets in the city’s Market Square. Some popular historic destinations on the island include St. George’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Grenada National Museum and Fort George. You can hike along the volcanic terrain as you pass dockside warehouses, century-old plantations and rum distilleries that are situated around the surrounding tropical habitats. Or you can join first time visitors and locals who frequent the beaches that border the island, including the popular Grand Anse Beach.
