Kazakhstan is a country in west central Asia and is located south of Russia. Some of the country’s major cities include Turkestan, Astana and Almaty.
Kazakhstan is best known for its rocky landscape and mountain ranges, including the Tien Shan Mountains, where locals enjoy popular activities like hiking, trekking and horseback riding. As part of the Khan Tengri International Mountaineering Camp, first time visitors can learn how to trek and mountain climb with the help of experienced mountain guides. One of the highest points of Kazakhstan is Pobeda Peak, which is 24,406 feet high. On a hiking tour, visitors may stumble across the ancient rock carvings of Tamgaly.
There are several other landmarks including the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, in Turkestan, which is one of the best-preserved structures of the Timurid period. To cool down in the summer days, take a dip or fish in one of the Kolsai Lakes, three mountain lakes known as the “pearls of northern Tien-Shan.”
