Scottsdale is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, adjacent to Phoenix. Scottsdale has become internationally recognized as a premiere and posh tourist destination, while maintaining its own identity and culture as "The West's Most Western Town." However, despite this motto, in most construction of new horse corrals was prohibited in the 70s, and what was once vacant desert became high-end urban real estate.
Scottsdale is packed with upscale resorts and spas, and is a favorite shopping destination for tourists. There are, however, great natural parks in the area, as well as a contemporary art museum and the Scottsdale Center for the Arts.
Be sure to try one of the 200 golf courses in the Scottsdale area. Although most of the green fees are relatively high during the high season (November - April), there are a few good courses that can be played year-round at a reasonable rate. Green fees are very cheap during the summer ($10 - $50 per round with cart) and if you tee off early in the morning you can finish your round before the heat gets too unbearable.
