Zagreb is a vibrant city of around a million people is the capital of Croatia. The city boasts a charming medieval 'old city' with architecture and cobbled streets reminiscent of Vienna, Budapest, Prague and other Central-European capitals, though mixed with a strong Italian influence. In 2005 it was visited by over half a million tourists, mainly from Austria, Germany and Italy. It is situated between the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain and both northern and southern bank of the Sava river at an elevation of approximately 122 meters above sea level.
