Pisa is a city in western Tuscany, Italy, known for having one of the world’s most recognizable architectural mishaps—the Leaning Tower. Pisa, which sits at the mouth of the Arno River, originated as an oceanfront settlement over 3,000 years ago and today is home to more than 20 historic churches, as well as many other fascinating sights. This pious city has a Mediterranean climate, so temperatures do not get too extreme, but the city is most pleasant in spring and autumn.
To visit some of Pisa’s most iconic and beloved monuments, Piazza dei Miracoli is your one-stop shop. Here you can see the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Leaning Tower (also referred to as the Bell) and the Monumental Churchyard. The Museo Nazionale di San Matteo is filled with amazing paintings and sculptures that date from between the 12th and 18th centuries and is definitely worth visiting.
