My husband and I 'lived' here for almost 3 weeks whilst I was in Shanghai for interviews. We wanted something quiet, a 'home-away-from-home', and most importantly a room with fast internet connection where I could plug in my laptop, and comfortable place to work from during the day. We had a business room. This hotel exceeded our expectations in every way, and for the price is an absolute bargain. The staff were always friendly and helpful - from the cleaning staff right up the the GM. English-language skills at reception are good. The GM is an excellent manager, highly visible in the hotel, and keeping things to her standards. She often asked us 'how can we improve?' and she was genuinely looking for ways to make the hotel even better. The buffet breakfast is quite nice. Access to the hotel is via a drive way off the main street - so it is very quiet and protected from the noise of the traffic. This is not a tourist area: you will not be asked if you want to buy a Rolex or handbag by anyone on the street. Just outside the hotel is a great selection of restaurants - some of them absolutely fantastic and cheap. It's a short walk to the subway, or the hotel will get a taxi for you (around RMB20 into the business district). We highly recommend the Asset hotel, and will stay here again.

This hotel has great rates and nice rooms for the price range. More upscale rooms are junior and executive suites, while the promotional, single and double rooms are big bargains. The free breakfast is in a breakfast room and consists of Chinese favorites with cereals, breads, meats, and fruit. Great coffee too! The staff are very friendly with no attitude. There is always someone on duty with knowledge of English, and everyone makes a big effort in customer satisfaction. The location is near subway Line 1, with Line 4 not far away. It is in a typical Shanghai neighborhood, safe and without the pickpockets and constant touts of Nanjing Lu.
