Of all the 5-star hotels in Cairo, this is one of the worst. Staff were freindly, to be sure, but housekeeping was absolutely lousy. During my two weeks at the Ramses Hilton, I tried multiple times to have the General Manager and Housekeeping Director contact me so I could complain directly to them. Neither of them made an effort to get in touch with me. I have visited Cairo dozens of times and stayed in many different hotels in Cairo. The Ramses Hilton has a well-deserved reputation for having worn out furnishings and lousy service. I lived in Cairo for six years and us Westerners would often joke about the place, so I should have known better than to stay there. My first (and last) visit to this hotel was in June 2008. Nice location but you can do a lot better at many other hotels in the area.

This hotel was part of a package we had for our stay. Its across the street from the Egyptian Museum and right on the Nile. He had an awesome view, although it was smoggy/overcast. The hotel was quiet but when you opened your sliding door to the outside, the full ambiance of Cairo was apparent in the honking of cars and the bustle of traffic and sounds of the call to prayer several times a day. Close the door and you couldnt hear a thing! The room was clean and staff helpful and respectful, although I did have trouble cashing some travellers checks at the 2 banks they had on the premesis. After speaking to a concierge about it, the managers of the banks were notified and those involved were repremanded. I dont have a clue why they told me I couldnt cash them there... There is a souk across the street that we didnt have time to go into. Breakfast was included in our room price and offered varied food items & basic eggs, toast along with local dishes, fruit, juices and many pastries and breads. A wide range of nationalities were coming & going and it was interesting watching people. I felt very safe and I would stay here again. We were a group of 8 women travelling together of various ages. It was an experience! Cairo is hurried and different! Come with an open mind and leave your snooty ideas at home!
