I always expect a certain quality when it comes to Hilton hotels. Unfortunately, the Hilton Metropole needs a bit more work to get to that standard. We were...

It's one of the largest hotels in London and Europe but is devoid of character. It has shops and places to eat/drink, but there's no harmony. It's a...

We stayed at the Hilton Metropole for a week in early May 2008. Our room was a "deluxe room" but was still very cramped. (I shudder to think what a standard room was like.) We could not walk side by side past each other at the foot of the two full-size beds...the path was that narrow. The view out the window was electrical boxes and wiring, so not a big selling point. The bathroom was average and closet space somewhat limited, but the room was well kept by hotel staff. The best thing about this hotel is its proximity to a variety of transportation options. The hotel is very close to 2 tube station entrances for London's Underground. Several tube lines overlap here--you have direct access to 4 different lines and it's pretty easy to connect to the others within a few stops. The hotel is only a few tube stops from St. Pancras International where you can catch the Eurostar to Paris (we did that in a very full day trip). Paddington Station is also nearby for transportation to and from Heathrow Airport--we managed the walk from the station to the hotel with backpacks and wheeled suitcases. There's a department store across the street from the hotel with a food market offering fresh salads, sandwiches and ready-to-eat entrees. That definitely helped ease the terrible exchange rate between the dollar and the pound and made meals more affordable. Overall we didn't love the room or the hotel but it was fine as a ?home base? and place to crash in the evenings. After all, it was vacation and we didn't travel all that way to spend our time in a hotel room!

The service, the follow-up, the cleanliness, and most other aspects of this hotel need improving. Whoever rated this a 4 star hotel hasn't visited it lately. The only good thing is proximity to the tube station"

We stayed here for our honeymoon and received excellent service. The bed was huge and the bathroom was ample. There are 2 subway stops within a block of the hotel. For the price I paid, On our next trip to London, we will make sure that we stay here again. We even received chocolate, strawberries and champagne in our room ( I guess we looked newlywed).
