I recently spent 7 nights at this hotel and it was a fantastic stay. The location is in the center of the action. If you like to step out smack in the middle of a bustling, lively city, you will love this hotel. It is connected to the ultra convenient Shibuya transit station. You can go anywhere in Tokyo from here with at most one transfer of metro or subway but most trips require no transfer. However there is no need to go anywhere since Shibuya has it all; great restaurants and bars every 40 feet; retail stores everywhere, including the Tokyu department store about 200 feet from the hotel; and tons of fashionably dressed Tokyoites all around you. The hotel is modern and clean with views on the upper floors that will truly impress you. The staff speaks some english, but their core clientele is definetely Japanese businessmen and some families. They are professional and polite and strive to meet your needs. The rooms are being refurbished with completion scheduled for September. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are small but maintained well. This is probably not the hotel for a large family, but the single traveler will be very happy at the Shibuya Excel. Overall a very good hotel and a good value.

I was travelling on the same trip as MarkT (different room) and had a very similar opinion of the hotel, and agree with everything said. We were in rooms that hadn't been remodeled yet, and they were great. The bathroom was small, and the tub was fit for a 5'2" person, but deep. The views and location are the best though. Also we only ate breakfast there, and it was bufet 20, a bit steep. I highly recommend the Shibuya area for staying in Tokyo for a vacation, and this was the best hotel in the area for location, so in a way it might be the best hotel in Tokyo? We visited other areas of Tokyo's that are popular hotel locations, Shinjuku, Ginza, and nothing compares to Shibuya. It has 100 square blocks of little alleys and jammed pack restaurants and clubs and bars. Tokyo has something I've never seen in a city: streets are filled with 5-7 story buildings, and every floor including one or two basement levels has a separate business/bar/club on it. Very dense! And the quality of these places in amazing. This is getting off the hotel topic, but I want to emphasize the great location of this hotel for exploring and having fun! The staff at this hotel, just like most service providers in Tokyo, were 100% obsessed with providing good service, and attentive, and highest quality, etc. There's nothing like it in the West, except at a Four Seasons, and then you know they do it for the money or tips. In Tokyo it's like a religious dedication to quality. And there is no tipping or taxes. So although things are expensive, * for a beer, it includes the tax and tip. In conclusion: Shibuya Excel = Great hotel in Shibuya!
