as far as location...this cant be beat. if you stay on a room facing the zocalo...which they cant guarantee you will receive til you get there....you get the best view of the zocalo. directly across the national palace and across the way from the cathedral you are greeted to the drums and bugles as the honor guard raises and lowers the mexican colors every am and pm.... no a/c but you dont need it...only thing is, if you leave the terrace doors open the mosquitoes get in.... woke up to bites....i say they are mosquitoes, my girl says they are bed bugs....and thats all im gonna say about that. place could stand a renovation....chipped porcelain, missing tiles....but thats part of the charm of an old hotel, no? but the location is why we stayed....now that we did, we probably wont come back. i still give it a thumbs up....on location alone.

We stayed here for 3 nights last summer, and just made reservations for another stay this year. The location is amazing, and the view of the Zocolo and it's constant activity was incredible. We had read a review about the noise, so we brought earplugs, which were very needed! There is nearly constant drumming outside, which did get annoying, but the view and nearby activities were well worth it. Each morning and evening the military band comes out marching and playing while the Mexican flag is raised, and then later, lowered. This was very moving and powerful, and we watched each time we were able to. The desk crew was very nice, and anytime we needed anything (including a taxi), they were very helpful. The restaurant had great beans and rice, and as vegetarians, we were happy with that for our first meal in Mexico City. The service crew at the restaurant was not very attentive, and we chose to eat there only once. We could walk to any other type of meal we wanted.

We stayed here for 2 nights.. hotel is on Zocolo Square.. very noisy. We couldn't leave windows open at night due to the noise, and there is no air conditioning. We awoke the first morning covered in bed bug bites !! Staff in the bar was rude and inattentive. The waiter was more intersted in rubbing the back of the waitress than getting us drinks. Stay somewhere ( anywhere ) else !!!
