This hotel definitely isn't for the old (or old at heart). It is The Standard, after all. Nestled in the heart of busy Sunset Blvd, the hotel is close to many a trendy eatery and swanky night hot spot. In fact, The Standard itself is quite a place to be on a night out ? the main lobby and pool area turn into a busy bar and lounge area after hours. That said, we did come after all for business. And while there isn?t a meeting room on site (although you can conduct a wonderful business tete-a-tete while reclining under a shaded table poolside)? the hotel definitely houses a good number of young, hip business travelers. The type who work hard at day, and party hard at night. Although there?s no wireless in the rooms, you can request an Ethernet cable from the front free of charge. Also, you can work on the free wireless in the lobby while lounging on a fuzzy chair (which is much more comfortable than it sounds). Despite being in LA, the front desk was surprisingly courteous and helpful. Our rooms were upgraded free of charge, and the attendants were pleasant to deal with. As the norm for The Standard, minimal was its design aesthetic (think The W, but more mod). Bathrooms were small and sparse (but surprisingly fun b/c of the bright colors), and rooms didn?t have much beyond a television, small desk/vanity area, and a beanbag chair. Nonetheless, it was a great place to crash after a hard day in meetings and a long night roaming Sunset. If you?re a light sleeper, though, request a room on the top level. Otherwise, you might hear the din of the happening bar. I guess that?s the price you pay for in the mix.
