I booked this hotel because it was the cheapest one I could find that was within walking distance of everything in downtown Santa Monica. I got the room for...

I'm writing this review from my from at the Hotel Carmel. It's a tourist class hotel. The rooms are mission-style and fairly basic, but clean and the staff are friendly. For this price and location, it's a good deal. They regularly upgrade me to the next level of room when they have availability. You don't get a lot of amenities but it's comfortable and the best of Santa Monica lies at your doorstep."

We will never stay there again.
I've stayed twice at this hotel with the same result: poor service and high price relative to what the hotel says is a five star establishment....
