Maybe it's okay if you get a room with a view and fireplace but unless you get the best rooms you will be stuck with an incredibly rustic room that could be...

Beautiful view, amazing rooms, just perfect for a special occasion, and the fire place adds a nice touch in the mostly cooler Carmel. I have been coming...

I am someone who usually stays at The Ritz Carlton and The Four Seasons so when I booked my room at The Highlands Inn for 800 for the night I expected good service and a clean room. What I got instead was a staff that was looking to do as little as possible for me and my six year old daugther woke up covered in bug bites after sleeping on a queen size sofa sleeper. The manager on duty was horrified upon looking at my daughter and promptly let me out of the second night I had paid for (my daughter would not even go back to the room - she was traumatized) but when I contacted the resort manager when I got home from my trip she refused to admit any responsibility or give me anything in the way of money back or a credit. HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE!!! DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!

We selected this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary--it was well worth the cost. The service is outstanding, the view really beautiful, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We were disappointed with the service at the restaurant. Made a reservation and mentioned it was to celebrate our 25th anniversary--no acknowledgement, no congratulations--we were disappointed.

Perched atop the Pacific Coast Highway right outside of Carmel, this place is spectacularly beautiful even when the weather is cold and rainy. In fact, it's almost better that way, because you can take advantage of the in-room wood burning fireplaces to make your stay as snuggly as can be. It's the perfect place for a romantic getaway - you might not want to leave the room!
