Teeny tiny, older hotel with slightly tilted rooms due to the old building. More like an upscale motel, really... no nice bath products... typically...

Great location. Small rooms but this is San Francisco and really why do you need a large room (if you want to have a get together in your room though, not...

A wonderful stay at uniquely charming property. The staff was courteous and helpful from beginning to end. Conveniently located near Embarcadero, the Griffon provided both convenience and atmosphere, a hard combination for many larger properties to achieve.

We had a nice king room with no view but we fully expected that and felt the value was great. The only complaint we had about the room was the lack of ventilation or ability to open a window. The weather in SF was warm and the room was stuffy as a result. The location on Embarcadero across from the Ferry Building and convenient to mass transit was perfect.

I only stayed here one night over Labor Day weekend as I was attending a football game in Berkeley across the Bay. This hotel is very close to the Embarcadero BART station so is very convenient without being around all the hotel traffic around Union Square. The room is somewhat small-ish but what you would expect in places like Manhattan and San Francisco. The great Ferry Building is a very short walk away, with great views of the downtown and the Bay itself. Noted fine restaurants are also in the immediate neighborhood. I am a VIP online travel website member and got a very good last-minute discount by booking through this website. I believe the rate came down 15%.

The front desk was helpful in switching rooms when online travel website forgot to book us. The city was full so we had to stay. The location of the hotel is great. Breakfast was nice and service was good. The hotel was very clean, but the rooms are very small and noisy. Many of the rooms are located above an exhaust fan from the hotel's kitchen on the first floor. Our room was so loud we couldn't sleep; it sounded like we were in a jacuzzi. The front desk was unable to switch off the fan but promised it would be off at 10:00 pm. It wasn't- it ran all day and night. Room service reports they get lots of complaints about the noise. Stay here only if you can sleep through an earthquake.

My only comment is to make sure you are not placed in an interior room, i.e., facing the shaft. These rooms are dark
