The price was right on Booking.com, but that's about all. The outside of the hotel looks charming as hell, but the inside is SO BADLY in need of a makeover...

Quality lodging with Victorian Crown Moulding throughout. High end materials used when it was refurbished in late 80's or 90's...shows a little wear in places, but overall in excellent condition. Located on corner of Gough and Sutter five blocks from the California Street cable car. Good access to muni system; we bought the City Pass for 54 per which gives you 9 days of muni (bus and trolly), cables cars, a bay cruise and numerous visits to various places like Deyoung, SFMOMA, Legion of honor and the Asian Art museum among others. The hotel has a cozy bar which is perfect for quiet converstion and an excellent dining room which is open for breakfast 7 days a week and for dinner 5 nights a week. We had breakfast several times Luis did a great job with the egg dishes. Will definately try dinner there next time out. Over all good location for access to the heart of the City. Easy to take the muni to an area like Union Square, the Marina, the Castro, SOMA, the Presidio, or Fisherman's Wharf and walk around to your hears content. We will definately stay there again.
