The hotel was wonderful. Centrally located, one block from the Magnificent Mile and directly across the street from Harry Carey's! The breakfast in the morning was perfect. Plenty to eat. Cocktail hour was the best. They had all the premium choice liquors? to choose from, along with some very delicious appetizers. Comfortable bed and a very roomy bathroom. We will definitely stay here again.

I suppose if I were there on business I would stay at this hotel. But for vacation...our view was the top of the building across the street and construction. There isn't a pool or a restaurant in the building. They do offer room service through their partnership with Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse, but the cost is astronomical. The House of Blues is just around the corner, that's good. The hotel staff were friendly. The room didn't get quite cool enough, and it was small.

I was expecting phenominal customer service from the hotel staff by the way the hotels website goes on an on about it but instead received rather mediocre service. The telephones in the room did not work so we were forced to walk down to the lobby anytime we needed anything or had any questions. Our remote control did not work and it took them two days to provide us with a new one. Also, the restaurant they use for room service is TERRIBLE. Our food was beyond burned and incredibly overpriced. On the plus side - the rooms were nice, the hotel is in a nice location and the daily breakfast and happy hour were nice to have. I would stay again but will stay away from room service and hope that the front desk is a little more accomodating next time.

The Amalfi is located in downtown Chicago close to everything. We could walk 2 blocks and be on Michigan Ave. The bus system is excellent and the people in Chicago are very helpful and friendly. Our hotel staff were very informative and glad to help with any request. From the doorman to the receptionist, the people setting up the free breakfast, the custodial staff, everyone was friendly and always asking if we needed anything. The social at the end of the day is wonderful offering free drinks and appetizers. You have to try their famous Amalfini, it's EXCELLENT. I wish we could have stayed for months! One of the best vacations we have had bar none. Perhaps we can win a trip or someone will offer to send us back soon. :) If not, we will save for another trip one day.

The Amalfi was recommended to us by a friend. It even exceeded our expectaions. This relatively small hotel has a great European flavor. The decor is Italian-modern, and it was absolutely spotless. Our room was modest in size, but very adequate for two. (They may have other larger rooms). The continental breakfast, set out on each floor was great. Only about 20 steps to get my first cup of coffee. Nice selection of fruit, pastry, juice, yogurt, bagels, and some days doughnuts. The late afternoon "happy hour" was outstanding, with top shelf drinks, and the featured house drink, the Amalfitini. The buffet was a nice selection of Italian items Others have commented on the friendliness of the staff. I have to second that, right down to the maintenance people. Add to this its convenient location, and it all added up to a great vacation.

My family & I booked this hotel as a short-stay break driving from Cincinnati to spend a few days in Chicago! First of all, the display picture doesn't really do this hotel justice. It appears much more grand in the pictures than what one drives up to (a real let down here - not impressive at all!). The Reception area is small & uncomfortable & I had to walk around a pillar to catch the attention of the Receptionist...& he was sitting down (so, do I sit...or does he stand?). Our Receptionist was called an "Experience Designer" which I thought was a bit over-the-top for Concierge. Anyway, our "Experience Designer" procurred show tickets at three times the cost of what we would have paid at the Box Office. When we were interested in a show, he could have also advised us to simply walk the two blocks from the Amalfi & purchase the tickets ourselves at a fraction of the cost. Being from out-of-town, we weren't aware of the distance to the theatre district. Also, our room, while clean, was merely standard. The towel bar in the bathroom needed to be fixed - my wife was regretting what we paid to be in the Amalfi. The worst part of this experience was two-fold: (1) as other persons have already mentioned, the trash pick-up is HUGELY annoying. It takes place at 2-3 a.m. each morning & it VERY LOUD! I'm aware the hotel has defended themselves on this point, but it's definitely a lame defense: they are doing nothing to change this, at all! (2) The Manager's Special evening takes place in this VERY small, cramped little room with around 50 people stuffed into it. This was a big let down! Embassy Suites here we come! Don't go to Amalfi!
