This hotel is on the other side of the tunnel from the historic downtown area. It is a short drive in one direction to that area and in the other direction to access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Those looking for the eclectic, downtown experience will not like this location, but I liked the fact that it was in the middle of an area with lots of shopping and restaurants. The driveway up to the hotel goes up a landscaped hill so this hotel does feel somewhat secluded and removed from the bustle of Tunnel Road.

There is no contradiction! Service was indeed above average, attentive to details and yet, it could be improved, thus the 4 rating. And we are not freaks about having somebody at our beak and call any minute. However, overall it was a pleasant stay, nice room, good room arrangement, attentive service (and we had half a dozen requirements, such as refrigerator in the room, different kind - softer - pillows, etc.) which were promptly responded to. We recommend this Hampton hotel; we are looking forward to try others.
