We have never stayed in such a terrible place in 20 years!! The staff were abrupt, flat, and unhelpful. The carpet was so old that it had rolls in it--a tripping risk. The shower had a hair in it. We put out our placard for maid service at 0930. We did see the maid in our hallway, but she never came that day. The beds were so old that one could feel the coiled wires. The bedspread had a red stain, of either ketchup or blood??? No coffee maker or fridge. TV reception poor. At night, we were too warm and could not sleep. We pressed the buttons to lower the temp, but the actual temp in the room was always 70' and likely preset by the hotel. Every nite, our 3 and 5 year old noticed a terrible smell in the hallway. The pool looked really nice, but you could not enjoy swimming in it due to the extremely cold water temp. Surprisingly, swimming in Lake Tahoe is actually quite warmer than their pool. The Horizon is the worst ever and we"ll never go back there. This hotel isn't good enough for their own cockroaches. It should be leveled and re-built by a reputable business.

This Hotel/Casino is definitely geared to the Casino part of the description. If you like to watch movies, the presence of a Multi-Screen Theater in the Hotel is a plus, but if swimming is your thing, are you in for a Big Surprise ! The "largest pool in the area" is not heated. On July 2,3 and 4 the pool temperature was well below 75 degrees F , and when the front desk staff was questioned about whether or not they heated the pool, the response was, "it is lukewarm." If watching little kids cry, after they jump in the pool is fun, then stay here. The front desk also made an error and checked us out of the wrong room, and when re-instating our folio, failed to re-enter our Credit Card info, which made room charges in the restaurant a "whole lot of fun". Even after getting it all resolved on July 3, the restaurant was still having trouble with our room charges on July 4. The entire place smells like a giant cigar, resting in an ashtray that hasn't been cleaned since the early 1950's. The smell permeates the entire hotel, so if you have any allergies to tobacco, this is not the place for you. On July 4, we vacated the room for 13 continuous hours, and when we returned at 9:00 pm, we found the small "Please Make Up Room Now" sign, still hanging from our doorknob. Housekeeping was kind enough to bring us fresh towels and dump the trash, after we made a special request to the Front Desk. If you want to give the owners your money, then book your stay across the street at the Monte Bleu. They own it as well, and it is nicer by far...and their pool is indoors.

the beds were like sleeping on carpeted floor. way too hard. the pool was beautiful and big but way cold. the toilet wobbled and ran and we could here everything the other hotel guests were doing. our bell boy was helpful but the front desk staff were snooty and one of the reasons we wanted this hotel was they advertised babysitting services but when we called down they said that it was a casino not a daycare. should have payed the extra and stayed at the montbleau or saved and stayed in one of the smaller hotels down the street. at least the beds would have been comfortable.

Most of our stay was outstanding. The only exception was the room was noisy in the evening. We were on the ninth floor and still had to keep the window closed to eliminate the noise. Also could hear the elevators most of the night. Overall, we enjoyed this trip. We would stay here again.

Horizon could be a good hotel to stay if wasn't for the room noises. I wake up in the middle the night couple times because your are able to hear the people of the other room. Also I was surprise when I checked out and I have extra charges of 15.00 - 5.00 per night because validate parking that I didn't use because there are self parking. Newspaper that I didn't asked for, and water in the room that I didn't drink. I believe as any good hotel those things would be a compliment and not charges + when I asked the front desk the receptionist was very rude.

The Horizon is definitely in need of some changes. My wife and I booked this trip last minute and were therefore not expecting anything spectacular. The Horizon met our low expectations, but barely. The staff all seemed enthusiastic and helpful, but they seemed to have a lack of resources to work with, which suggests to me that they are badly managed. For example, the room service guy that took our order delivered the food himself; he said he was the only one working that night. Also, it turned out that he had a different menu downstairs then we did in the room. The casino itself is fine (low limits) but there was only one poor waitress working the entire place (I tipped her heavily as she was hustling big-time). Also, the dealers were a bit grouchy, probably because the patrons were complaining (rightfully) that the drinks were less than free-flowing.There was a computer problem checking out, which took about 20 minutes to resolve. The bell desk was really slow, but when the bellmen did arrive, they were very helpful.Overall, if what you are looking for is just a simple place to sleep after skiing, and don't mind going across the street for some good food (try the Ciena steak house at the Montbleu - outstanding place), then the Horizon is probably an ok place to stay.If you are willing to part with some extra money (the Montbleu was 180 per night on the same weekend we were there, and we paid 150 at the Horizon) definitely stay at a different hotel.
