Best hotels, facts and information in Antigua and Barbuda

Located in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean, the nation of Antigua and Barbuda comprises two islands, and is known for its stunning white sand beaches and coral reefs. The islands were also the site of an 18th century naval base and expansive sugar cane plantations; almost 100 stone cane mill processing towers remain, now used as homes, restaurants and shops. The original sugar estate, Betty’s Hope, has a restored sugar cane mill available for viewing.

The capital, St. John’s, lies on the big island of Antigua and features the St. John’s cathedral, and a lively downtown hub. The island of Barbuda is largely undeveloped and is home to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, with more than 150 bird species and 5,000 frigate birds. The country also hosts the annual Stanford Antigua Sailing Week in late April and early May, one of the world’s premier regattas.
