Intro

The Berkshires, in western Massachusetts, is a region best known for its emphasis on culture and tourism. The area gets its name from the Berkshire Hills, and is also assumed to include parts of Vermont, New York and Connecticut in conversation.

Mount Greylock, at 3,491 feet, stands tallest in the area and the state, setting the stage for what is surely a nature-lover’s dream. Preservation is the word in this area full of diverse plant and animal species.

Spend some time bonding and feeding the family with a trout fishing adventure; count the different species you can spot on a nature walk or a visit to Berkshire Botanical Garden; check out the artist’s Saturday Evening Post Covers at the Norman Rockwell Museum. The Berkshires are also known for their long, strong history in art and community through events such as Jacob’s Pillow, the nation’s first and longest-running dance festival. The are is also home to numerous summer camps.
