The Republic of Kenya lies on Africa’s Indian Ocean coastline. It was named for Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa. Kenya’s capital of Nairobi is also the country’s largest city, with a population of more than 3 million people, which makes it Africa’s fourth largest city.

With a dozen national parks within its borders, Kenya is an extremely popular destination for taking safaris. Popular national parks in Kenya include Amboseli National Park, Maasai Mara National Park and both Tsavo National Parks. Of those, Maasai Mara National Park is one of the most visited parks on the entire continent. Here, visitors can find the Big Five: lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants and rhinos, among many other unique species. The park is known especially for the thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles that migrate through the reserve each year.
