North Carolina’s beautiful landscape is rivaled only by its architectural charms. One of the original 13 colonies and a member of the Confederacy, North Carolina now has a diverse population.

In the Piedmont region, rolling foothills, big cities and golf courses await. Durham, home to Duke University, is an epicenter for academic and medicinal advancement. From Southport, ferry over to Bald Head Island, the heavily protected land of both salt marshes and maritime forests set in the Atlantic Ocean.

Perhaps the most attractive feature of North Carolina’s coast is the chain of islands called the Outer Banks. Also set in the ocean is the site of Kitty Hawk, where the Wright brothers attempted their first controlled power flight.
