Best hotels, facts and information in Montréal
Montréal is the cultural capital of Quebec (and one of the leading cultural cities of Canada) and the main entry point to the province. The second largest city in Canada, it’s rich in culture and history, has an inordinate number of attractive, fashionably dressed people, and a well-deserved reputation as one of the liveliest cities in North America. Montréal is home to the third-largest French-speaking population in the world, behind Paris and Kinshasa.
Old Montréal’s cobblestoned streets lined with buildings dating from the 17th through 19th centuries make it a scenic and popular tourist attraction. Easiest to explore on foot, it offers the Marché Bonsecours, Notre Dame Basilica and several museums (Marguerite-Bourgeoys, Pointe à Callière, George-Étienne Cartier). Place Jacques-Cartier is filled with street artists and musicians, and there are numerous fine restaurants and private art galleries nearby. The ‘Horse To Water’ (H2W) postal district is officially the most creative place in Canada, with 8 percent of the population deriving their primary income from artistic or creative work.
